How routers talk to each other

Understanding routing protocols means understanding how networks find paths. Each protocol uses different metrics to decide which route is best — hop count, bandwidth, delay. When you configure OSPF or EIGRP, you're setting rules for how routers share information and calculate the shortest path to any destination.
